Imagining the Next 100 Years of Racing:

I was asked this year to contribute a couple of illustrations to the Indianapolis 500 Official Program. In particular, they wanted me to create a piece that would project what the track might look like at some point in the next 100 years to accompany an article about the future of power. I had been working on creating some digital paintings lately and decided to approach the piece in that way. With input from the staff, I tried to keep things simple and recognizable and be subtle with changes to the track and stands. Well, as subtle as a monorail can be.

 I ended up having to remove one of the cars from the original larger Illustration, but I liked it so much I polished it up a bit and submitted it to run on the last page of the article. The design of the solo car is inspired by a prototype Red Bull developed for GranTurismo 5, with a few added adjustments and revisions. If you look closely you can see that instead of a gas nozzle intake, there is a standard extension chord socket for recharging to hint at the article's content.

Who is Darren Strecker, anyway?

Darren Strecker is a minimally known illustrator and graphic designer with 24 years of professional experience. He lives in the Midwest but has worked internationally for most major publishing and entertainment companies. The majority of his career has been spent creating posters for companies like LucasFilm, Marvel Comics, Warner Brothers, Disney, Sony, Paramount, 20th Century Fox, and Nickelodeon. Darren's illustrative work has appeared in the programs of the Brickyard 400 and Indianapolis 500 Motorcar Races as well as on albums covers and flyers for local and national rock bands. Darren's current home is also his business, STRECKER GRAPHICS.
